Brian Blackburn

Coach Blackburn is entering his third year as the Boswell Head Boys Basketball Coach.
In 2021, his first year as the head coach, he was named the District 3-6A Coach of the Year after leading the Pioneers to the UIL playoffs in their first year in UIL 6A, and for the first time in five years. 

Before coming to Boswell, Blackburn served as the Head Basketball coach for Wall High School in San Angelo, TX. Under his leadership, the Hawks were five-time District Champions, Co-District Champions once, and competed three times in the regional basketball tournament with a cumulative overall record of 153-45 and a district record of 61-3 during his tenure there. In 2012, Coach Blackburn was a member of the coaching staff that led the Nationally Ranked #1 Marcus High School boys basketball team to the UIL 2012 5A State Championship. Previous other coaching positions include stops at Whitewright High School and Bryan High School.

Blackburn walked on the Texas A&M University Men’s Basketball team as a sophomore, where he became a three- year varsity letterman from 2004-2007. He had the privilege to be a member of the  2007 NCAA Sweet 16 team. Blackburn’s collegiate success added to his previous high school accolades, where he was a member of the 2003 La Vernia All-State 3A Basketball team and a high school letterman in cross-country, track, and basketball.

Coach Blackburn is an alumnus of Texas A&M University. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. In 2010, he obtained his Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University.

Additionally, Coach Blackburn is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas High School Basketball Coaches Association, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Blackburn has previously served as the Director of West Texas Basketball Coaches Association and was a member of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Committee. Coach Blackburn was awarded the All West Texas Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016-2018. He also received the TABC Don Coleman Outstanding Coach Award in 2016. Blackburn has coached over 25 college athletes as well as over 35 THSCA/TABC Academic All State Student-Athletes. 

Brian and his wife, Lindsey have been married for ten years and are blessed with four children Nora, Hatty, Bowen, and Zoe. The Blackburn family enjoys going to parks, cooking, playing games, sports, church activities, and reading together.
