A battle of first and second place took place at Newcom Gymnasium, as the Lady Pioneers of Boswell welcomed the Weatherford Lady Roos to town in the 2023 home opener for Boswell on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
In a playoff like atmosphere, Boswell came out with the exciting five set win. Set scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-11, 23-25, and 15-7 to remain unbeaten in District 3-6A.
It was a match of milestones on Tuesday, as senior Emerson Chadwell surpassed 1000 career digs.
In the first set, it was as close as the score indicated. Both teams traded points throughout, but Weatherford built a five point lead. Boswell didn't give up, and climbed back to take the lead at 21-20 on a kill from senior Ella Neighbors, but Weatherford finished the win.
In the second set, the Lady Pioneers jumped out to a 14-8 lead, getting contributions from the entire team, and withstood a Weatherford rally to tie it up 1-1 on the game winner from senior Kennedy Caton.
The third set, Boswell jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back getting a combo block from Zoe Hawthorne and Rylinn Roberts.
Weatherford took set four, and Boswell closed out the fifth set with a dominating performance.
Camille Middleton and Brooke Lacewell led the team in kills with 16 and 12 respectively. Keoni Williams led the way in blocks with six, while Alena Lopez led in digs with 26. Chadwell contributed 14 to give her 1007 and counting for the season. Jaci Moore had 15 assists and 14 digs.
The win moves Boswell to 6-0, and next up is a match with sister school Chisholm Trail. Match play from Boswell High School is set for 5:30 p.m.
