It was an eventful day on the mat for both the boys and girls' wrestling teams, facing off against not only their own district-mates but many other talented schools as well.
On the gentlemen's side of the aisle, nine wrestlers threw down the gauntlet with six earning a top six placement in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Josh Bailey, Senior Kylar Davis, Junior Vincent Agustin and Sophomore Mohamed Mohamed finished third, fourth, fourth, and fifth respectively, earning themselves a spot at the regionals championships. Combined with the efforts of their teammates, the boys closed out the day in ninth.
The ladies performed just as well, sending eight into the fray and a staggering seven coming out the other side in a top six spot. Darley Cordaway lead the charge with a gold metal and the title of district champion, earning a spot in regionals alongside silver medalists Kaylie Groot and Chrissy Johnson, and bronze medalist Ainsley Suggs. They, along with their teammates, rallied enough points to end district in sixth place.
Both teams send their qualifiers to Coppell for the Region 1 Championships on Friday, February 6th, and Saturday, February 7th to fight for a spot at State.
