The Pioneer wrestlers competed at the District 2-6A Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4, despite the icy weather throughout the week. The boys team qualified three wrestlers for the Regional tournament. Senior Taylor Daniels placed 4th, junior Zach Hudson placed 4th, and senior David Kurek placed 3rd. Senior Connor Campbell wrestled in a tough heavyweight weight class and fell short of the medal stand.

All three Lady Pioneers wrestled well. Freshman Kaylie Groot held a 2-1 lead into the second period before eventually falling to her opponent from Fossil Ridge. Senior Lah Kain beat her first opponent from Keller Central 15-0. She pinned her semi-final opponent who was a state qualifier from the 2021-2022 season in 37 seconds. She lost in the District Championship match 3-5. Senior Alana Lee won by pin in the first period in her first match of the Day. She eventually lost in the Finals to her opponent from Timbercreek. Both of these seniors will lead the Lady Pioneers in the Region 1 tournament. Kain is looking to secure her first trip to the state tournament while Lee is the returning State Silver Medalist.

The 6A Region 1 Championships will be held at Thomas Coliseum in Haltom on Feb. 10-11.
