At the THSWPA State Powerlifting Meet on Mar. 13 at the Comerica Center in Frisco, two Boswell lifters showcased their strength and skill. Each lifter competed in three sets of lifts—squat, bench press, and deadlift—where the total weight determined the winner. Luci Lambert earned second place in the 165 lb. weight class with a total of 1,010 lbs while Ashlee DeHoyos in the 114 lb. class earned seventh place with a total of 725 lbs. This marked Lambert's second trip to State and DeHoyos's first appearance. "Last year I placed 11th, and I left with so much regret that it only heightened my want to do better," expressed Lambert reflecting on her season. "My best moment of the meet this year was nailing my 415 lb squat. It set the tone for the meet."

Lambert and DeHoyos are both seniors and have been in the powerlifting program for most if not all of their high school years. "They are great examples of how hard work pays off," said Head Powerlifting Coach Todd Davis. "This is something they can always be proud of. They are leaders on this team and the younger ladies look to them as to how to prepare."

Lambert's last lift of the meet was an attempt at a 405 deadlift and first place. She narrowly missed it but knew she had given it her best shot. "I was so close to locking it out, but I couldn't," she stated. "405 lbs had been a big goal on deadlift for me this season, and I came so close."
