The Pioneers started off strong Friday, hosting one of the season-defining matchups against friendly rival Saginaw in the Battle of the Wagon Wheel. Boswell dominated the field in the first half. DjuDju Lords threw a long touchdown to wide receiver Porter Stephenson to start off scoring. This was followed closely by run-ins from running back Jace Richardson and quarterback Tyler Reyes. Edgar Trevino on the d-line, linebacker Jackson Zieschang, and defensive backer Kanyon Diaz helped hold the line on defense, with the latter of the three catching an interception to bring the ball back into Pioneer possession. By the end of the first half, Boswell sat comfortably in the lead 21-0. Halftime, however, proved to be the turning point of the evening, as their opponent came out with rejuvenated effort and began to slowly climb in points. Lightning cut the game short for the evening and pushed the fourth quarter into the following Saturday morning. Sadly for the boys in blue, the Rough Riders hit the ground running and finished out the tail end by keeping the Wagon Wheel. However, Boswell made terrific strides in their gameplay that they look forward to implementing in future matchups and in the rematch next year.
The Pioneer return home this Friday, September 12th, to face off against the Haltom Buffaloes.
