Eagle Mountain–Saginaw Independent School District is proud to announce, Wes Weaver as the new head football coach and campus coordinator. Weaver brings 21 years of coaching experience to his new role at Boswell High School.

“We are excited to introduce Wes Weaver as our new head football coach. Wes is a dedicated Boswell Pioneer. He has been a tremendous assistant coach and offensive coordinator for many years,” said Athletic Director, Brent Barker. “I look forward to seeing him head the successful Boswell football program.”

Weaver takes over for longtime head football Coach John Abendschan. Recently, Abendschan took a position in administration at Eagle Mountain-Saginaw as an Assistant Athletic Director. “Wes is the ultimate professional in everything he does from teaching economics, calling offensive plays, being an incredible family man, he does it all with passion and loyalty,” said Coach Ab. “Coach Weaver is the best choice for Boswell because of his love for Boswell and his ability to lead. I cannot think of another person more deserving and a better fit for the kids and coaches at Boswell.”

Coach Weaver began his coaching career in 2002 as a middle school coach in Bridgeport. In 2006, he was hired at Weatherford High School as an assistant football and basketball coach. During his three years there the Kangaroos advanced to the State 5A playoffs twice.

Weaver left Weatherford in 2009 to take his first coaching role at Boswell High School. In his 14 years at Boswell, Coach Weaver has served as a freshman football coach, assistant baseball coach, assistant varsity football coach, assistant and head track and field coach and special teams coordinator. For the past four years, he has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Under his leadership, the Pioneers have eclipsed over 3000 yards of total offense every year, and last season eclipsed 4400 yards. Weaver has helped lead the Pioneers to 11 state playoffs, six Bi-District Championships, and in 2016 a four-round playoff run to the Regional Championship. Several players he has coached have won all-district honors and set school records that are still standing. He has taught English and history at Boswell and served as the Social Studies Department Head from 2012-2017.

Weaver is a 1997 graduate of Boswell High School, lettering in football, basketball, and track. In his senior year, the Pioneers were ranked No. 10 in the state and finished the regular season undefeated. Weaver also led the Pioneers in passing that year. He was part of the 1995 team that upset top ranked Stephenville to open the season, snapping their 32-game winning streak. Weaver played varsity basketball for two years and competed in the high jump, long jump and triple jump in track and field.
Coach Weaver holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in history from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has been married to his wife Amber, since 2005. Amber teaches English at Creekview Middle School. They have two daughters, Hartleigh a sophomore at Boswell and Murphee a sixth grader at Creekview.

“I feel very fortunate to be selected as the next Head Football Coach at Boswell High School. I am a product of this school district and football program, it holds a very special place in my heart. I loved playing for Coach Charlie Hesse, who made me want to be a coach, and I've been lucky to work for Coach Abendschan for a long time,” said Coach Weaver. “To get a chance to coach the great kids we have here and help them achieve their best and get to do it at Boswell has been a goal of mine if the opportunity were to ever present itself. I look forward to working with everyone associated with the program to be the best that we can be and continue the success that Coach Abendschan fostered in the last 17 years.”

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District and Boswell High School are pleased to welcome Coach Weaver to his new role and look forward to many more successful football seasons ahead.
