We are proud to welcome Wendell Ivory as the head coach of the Boswell High School boys basketball team for the coming 2023-2024 school year. Ivory has over 20 years of experience in education.
“Coach Ivory is a seasoned coach who has a wealth of experience, success and knowledge,” said Brent Barker, EMS Athletic Director. “We are thrilled to welcome him to our community and look forward to watching him lead a successful Boswell basketball program.”

Ivory comes to EMS ISD from Faith Family Academy in Oak Cliff where he was the Dean of Students the past year. Prior to that, Coach Ivory was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Trimble Tech from 2006 to 2022. During that time, they made the playoffs for ten consecutive seasons (2009-2018) for the first time in school history. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs were District Champions four times, Bi-District Champions twice and Region 1 tournament participants in 2011, 2012 and 2014. Ivory was also named the District Coach of the Year twice in 2014 and 2017. Prior coaching stints for Ivory also include Dunbar High School and Morningside Middle School. As an assistant coach at Dunbar High School, the team won the State Championship in 2003 and 2006.

Coach Ivory has a vast experience as an athlete. He played football, basketball, baseball, soccer and ran track while growing up in Fort Worth. Ivory was a four-year basketball player at Dunbar High School. He played on two teams that advanced to the Texas State Final Four and played basketball for four seasons in college. Coach Ivory played for Navarro College as a point and shooting guard and earned First Team All-Conference in 1990. He also played for the Sam Houston State Bearkats for two seasons as a small forward and shooting guard.

He holds his Bachelor of Arts in History and Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Education in Administration from Prairie View A&M University. Ivory and his wife, Valencia, are the proud parents of two children. Anya graduated from TCU in 2022 and Jai is on track to graduate from UNT in 2026.

“Under the leadership of some incredible coaches I have learned lessons that taught me the relationship between hard work and success and the value of being on a team. These lessons helped me in my professional and personal life,” said Coach Ivory. “I am excited to be part of the Boswell family. I know that every day is a great day to be a Pioneer!”
