On Monday, Aug. 1, the Boswell Pioneer football program kicked off the new season with its much awaited annual Midnight Madness event. The electrifying atmosphere at Pioneer Stadium was a testament to the unwavering support from fans. The Band of Gold, Pure Gold dance team and the Boswell cheerleading squad turned out in full force to cheer on their team. The start of the football season is one of the most anticipated and exciting times for students, coaches, and the school’s community," said John Abendschan, EMS Assistant Athletic Director. "Getting to practice the very minute it is allowed, in the middle of the night, with a crowd of onlookers and supporters adds an element that is unforgettable. I wish I could have done this as a young man – and that is why I love it so much." Boswell gears up for an exciting year with new head coach, Wes Weaver, at the helm. "I was excited and pleased with how the kids practiced the first day," said Weaver. "We had more kids out than we’ve ever had, and I felt like things went smoothly and efficiently. The first practice is always nerve-wracking because you’ve waited so long to get going and you want everything to go perfectly and get as many quality reps as possible. Overall, I felt like it was a good first step for the season." The Pioneers will scrimmage Birdville and Burleson at home on Thursday, Aug. 17 and then compete for the Wagon Wheel against Saginaw in their first non-district game on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Rough Rider Stadium.
