On Saturday, Aug. 26 our athletic department celebrated the athleticism, dedication and determination of former athletes as we welcomed our Class of 2023 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees with a banquet at the Hollenstein Career and Technology Center. This event also coincided with the thrilling Saginaw vs. Boswell Wagon Wheel football game held the night before where the inductees were recognized after the first quarter.
Established in 2011, the EMS ISD Hall of Fame was created to recognize former members of the EMS ISD family who have not only excelled in their athletic endeavors but have also made lasting impacts on the district and community. This year's class of inductees comprised four individuals and one team with an exciting twist - the inclusion of Saginaw High School inductees for the first time.
Scott Eddins, a Boswell Pioneer from the Class of 1997 achieved a remarkable high school career with two district championships, two regional champions and a crowning achievement as a 4A State Champion in 1997. His talents didn't stop there; he went on to represent Texas Christian University (TCU) in tennis, ranking among the top ten Division I singles players. Eddins didn't confine his talents to the collegiate level; he ventured into professional tennis, playing on courts in over 20 countries on the ATP and ITF tours. His contributions continued as he served as the Director of the Colleyville Tennis Center and Founded Inception Lighting and Innovations and Grow Light Design.
Richard Ramirez, a Boswell graduate from the class of 1984, made his name in the world of cross country and track. He claimed the title of 4A State Cross Country Champion in 1983. His journey included numerous district championships, regional titles and four appearances at the State Cross Country Meet. Switching gear to track, Ramirez earned the district championship in both the 1600m and 3200m events and secured two regional titles in the 3200m. He was a State Runner-Up in the 3200m. Ramirez's talent carried him to TCU, where he continued to shine. Beyond the track, he found a career as a Probation Officer in Tarrant County and currently works at TEXRAM Communications.
Billy Whitehill, from the Boswell class of 1968, made a significant contribution on the football field. His journey included two First Team All-District Selections as a defensive tackle and was named First Team All-District player on both the offensive and defensive lines. Whitehill earned a scholarship to the University of Alabama where he participated in prestigious bowl games such as the Sun Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl, as a member of the Crimson Tide. After college, Whitehill began a career at Northwest Pipe in Saginaw.
Congratulations to all our 2023 Hall of Fame inductees! #EMSproud
